A map has shown where the highest concentration of Brits want to stop asylum seekers from getting benefits. At the time of writing, a petition calling for the measure on Parliament’s website has garnered more than 212,000 signatures. When a campaign reaches 100,000, MPs consider debating it. 577 (0.55% of constituents) signatories are from Nigel Farage’s Clacton constituency, according to a map on Parliament’s website. 558 (0.61%) are from Castle Point, Conservative Rebecca Harris’ constituency, and 546 (0.56%) Rayleigh and Wickford, where Marc Francois is the MP.
570 (0.60%) signed in Llanelli, a Labour patch in Wales represented by Dame Nia Griffith. In Tamworth in the West Midlands, 578 (0.57%) had lent their support, and, in nearby Kingswinford and South Staffordshire, 502 signed (0.56%). Up in the north west, in Widnes and Halewood, where Derek Twigg is the Labour MP, 538 (0.58%) people signed the petition. Even further north, 524 (0.56%) come from the Labour seat of Whitehaven and Workington.

575 (0.61%) come from Redcar, another Labour area, and 589 (0.63%) from Hartlepool, where Jonathan Brash is the MP, one of Keir Starmer’s backbenchers.
Labour’s Sharon Hodgson is the MP for Washington and Gateshead South, where 535 (0.56%) signed the digital document, and 544 (0.59%) in Blaydon and Consett, another Labour win in 2024.
In Bexhill and Battle, a Tory seat, 0.51% of constituents support the move (460). In South Holland and the Deepings, represented by the Conservatives, 481 (0.54%) signed.
Immediately north, in Boston and Skegness, where Reform UK’s deputy leader Richard Tice reigns, 560 (0.48%) pledged their support.
The petition, set up by Bob Clements , calls for the axeing of “financial and other support for asylum seekers”.

It added: “This petition is to advocate a cessation of financial and other support provided to asylum seekers by the government. This support currently includes shelter, food, medical care (including optical and dental), and cash support.
“I believe that such provisions may inadvertently incentivise illegal migration, particularly via the English Channel. This petition is to urge the Government to discontinue these support measures and payments.”
Conservative MP for Gordon and Buchan Harriet Cross told the House of Commons on Monday: “New research shows that foreign nationals are claiming almost £1 billion in benefits each month.”
Labour migration minister Seema Malhotra said: “They quadrupled net migration to record levels, and she will indeed want to correct her facts I think on the immigration White Paper which will be reducing net migration by considerably more than she suggested, and indeed, what the Home Secretary has also said – now indeed, the latest figures show that since this Government came to power, almost 30,000 foreign criminals, failed asylum seekers and others with no right to be in the UK have been removed.”
