The battle began immediately. Olí underwent surgery, and doctors were able to remove 90% of the tumor. As a result of the tumor’s pressure on her brain, a valve was placed in her head to relieve the buildup of fluid. Though the road ahead seemed daunting, Olí faced every challenge head-on. She began numerous cycles of chemotherapy and radiation, each one a grueling battle for her tiny body. Yet, through it all, she kept her sweet smile, showing more strength than many adults could ever comprehend.
By September 2023, Olí was nearing the end of her prescribed treatment protocol, bringing hope that she might soon be free of the battle that had consumed so much of her young life. However, in a heartbreaking turn, doctors discovered new lesions in her head and spine. The news was devastating for her family, as they had hoped that her treatment was working and that she might finally be free of the monster that had taken so much from her. But the fight was far from over.
Since that moment, Olí has had to endure even more treatment. She has recently completed her second round of radiation, and while the journey has been long, she has been doing well. Her family continues to remain hopeful, holding onto the belief that their daughter’s resilience will see her through this difficult time. She is scheduled for further imaging in the coming months to see how the treatments are affecting her, but her family is optimistic. Through it all, they have witnessed their daughter’s incredible strength—she is the strongest baby they know, and they celebrate every moment of her bravery.
Despite the toll that cancer has taken on her little body, Olí is still a playful and joyful little girl. She loves to play with her cousins, laugh, and enjoy the simple pleasures of childhood.
